La Taverne de Zhao_saint germain des prés
About This Spot
Stepping into La Taverne de Zhao on Rue Mazarine feels like discovering a quiet corner of authentic Mandarin culture nestled within the heartbeat of Saint Germain des Prés. The atmosphere hums with a gentle warmth—an unassuming charm that draws you into a world where tradition and thoughtful hospitality meet. It’s the kind of spot where the pace slows just enough to savor each bite, while the soft murmur of conversation and the occasional clatter from the kitchen create a comforting backdrop.
This is not the china you find in tourist-heavy areas or the predictable takeout elsewhere in the city. There’s an intimacy here, a relaxed yet attentive energy shared between the staff and the steady flow of neighbors and travelers returning for a second or third taste of something truly heartfelt. You might find yourself waiting patiently in a modest queue, a small tribute to its quiet reputation, which only adds to the sense of being part of a local discovery.
Meals unfold like homely narratives—each spoonful a balance of warmth and depth. The subtle heat from house-made chili crisp oil accompanies ribbons of hand-pulled noodles that feel honest and satisfying without ever overwhelming. Dumplings arrive with an inviting golden finish, their textures a tender reminder of careful craftsmanship. And when the meal winds down, unexpected yet soothing desserts like sesame ice cream or mango sticky rice carry whispers of home and shared stories.
In the midst of Paris’s bustling café culture, La Taverne de Zhao offers a moment of quiet connection—where flavors are more than just tastes, and the welcoming spirit behind the scenes elevates it beyond a simple meal. It’s a place to linger, to dig in, and to feel both the comfort of tradition and the gentle thrill of discovery.

Real Chinese cuisine and it was phenomenal!!! During our 6 day Paris trip; we were there twice. Loved the spicy noodle and steamed dumplings; both of them were delish. Also, their homemade ice tea is a must try

Staff are so friendly and helpful and polite. Decoration indoor is nice. I feel like there’s always long queue in front of the restaurant but the waiting time is probably between 15-30mins. For this price, the quality is good enough.

Great chinese food! It’s not the “regular” chinese food that we are all used to (at least not back home in Spain); great spinach noodles, amazing flavors, decent portions and very flavoury beef and chicken. We went twice during our stay in Paris. 100% recommended!

Best biang biang-style noodles in Paris (I've done the footwork and herioically absorbed the calories for you) and easily the most elevated transformation of the humble pork potsticker. This spot has a vibe you don't get elsewhere & attentive staff. They make their own chili crisp oil and black sesame ice cream... listen, sleep on this one. The line will be shorter when I visit. #parismust

I can't believe having biang biang noodle in the middle of Paris. The best meal I had for the last 2 weeks here!! It's even better than what I had in Xian!! 比西安的 biang biang 麵更好吃.

Cute atmosphere, food tasted fresh. I didn’t care for the clay pot, but the thick noodles we got were amazing! Flavors were good, but could be improved. Presentations looked good! I also got a homemade honey grapefruit tea, it was alright, don’t recommend. Classic fried chicken dumplings were good, I wish we would have tired something else though. The fried chicken was really good & different.

As a tourist in Paris craving authentic Asian food, La Taverne de Zhao was exactly what I needed. We arrived to find about 8 people ahead of us, but the 15 minute wait moved quickly and set expectations for a popular spot. The pork biang biang noodles were outstanding, perfectly chewy with bold, well-balanced spicing that delivered authentic Shanghai flavour. However, the xiao long bao (soup dumplings), while tasty and flavourful inside, fell short. The skins were thick when they should be delicately thin and refined, a mastery for this type of dumpling. Ended the meal with matcha ice cream with an egg roll. Decent service and exactly as expected , a nice way to finish the meal after some spice! The staff were great despite being super busy. Everyone was warm, smiley, and attentive throughout our meal. This a solid choice for satisfying Asian food cravings in Paris. The noodles alone are worth the visit, and the friendly service makes it a place I’d happily return to on my next trip.

Are you kidding me? Was this meal even real!? REALEST CHINESE NOODLES THIS SIDE OF THE MEKONG! So goooooodd! Big group of 7 ate their fill, with delicious, big portions, of authentic noodles and beef / chicken sauces - with lots of sichuan peppers!! A++ 11/10. Highly recommended!
